Kiri no Hashi 霧の橋 the manga

Bridge in the Mist, retold as an eight-page manga: Naruto and Sasuke inside Haku's Demonic Ice Mirrors on the unfinished bridge. No motion, no sound, just panels, balloons and screentone. Read it in English, Japanese or Thai; the Japanese edition reads right to left with vertical lettering. Five manga styles: Classic Shōnen, Shōjo and Gekiga, plus Digital Seinen and Full Colour Manga, two styles proposed and written by OpenAI Codex (GPT-6 Astra). Pick one below and the page you are on stays open, or compare all five on the same page further down.

One page, five styles

Page 6, the mirrors shattering: the same panels, the same balloons, through each style's pass. Click a page to read the manga in that style from page 6; the strip follows the language you picked above.

The story

The Land of Waves, a bridge no one has finished. Haku raises the Makyo Hyosho, mirrors of ice, and is in every one of them at once. Senbon rain. Sasuke's body moves on its own. Then the silence, the heartbeat, and the chakra that comes up out of Naruto like a fire that was never his. The mirrors break. The mask falls. Those eyes. We met once, in the forest. Eight pages, 26 panels, 18 lines, to be continued.

How it was made

Script and translation

The same 18 lines as the anime short, written in Japanese for it with an English translation; the Thai edition was translated for the manga, with Thai onomatopoeia (เพล้ง, ครืน, ฟิ้ว) beside the Japanese (バキィィン, ゴゴゴ, シュッ) and English SFX.

Panel engine

Every panel is a moment of the film: the film's own Canvas engine draws the scene at that second at 3840×2160 inside a hidden canvas, the panel crops and cover-fits it, and the style turns the colour frame into ink and screentone pixel by pixel. Pages are 1400×2000, rendered in headless Chrome on a Linux server with no GPU.

Lettering

English wraps on spaces; Thai has no spaces, so lines break on dictionary words with the browser's own segmenter; Japanese is set vertically, columns right to left, with long vowels and brackets rotated and small kana nudged, and the whole page mirrors so it reads right to left. Balloons size themselves to the text in each language.

Styles

A style is one file: colour overrides for the scene, a pixel pass for the panel, fonts per language, balloon and SFX treatment, page paper and borders. Shōnen is a 45° dot screen with solid blacks; Shōjo lays a soft wash under a fine screen and feathers the quiet panels into the paper; Gekiga hatches the shadows analytically, one line family per step darker, with every line jittered off its ruling. Styles 4 and 5, Digital Seinen and Full Colour Manga, were proposed, written and previewed by OpenAI Codex (GPT-6 Astra, reasoning high) against the same contract, in a scratch copy of this tree, on 2 November 2026.

Credits

Story and script
Original, written in Japanese with an English translation for the anime short Kiri no Hashi (demo.grn.dk, October 2026): 18 lines, no dialogue from the series.
Thai translation
Made for this manga edition, 1 November 2026, with Thai onomatopoeia set beside the Japanese and English SFX.
Panel engine and lettering
Claude (Anthropic, Claude Fable 5.1 in Claude Code), 1 and 2 November 2026: the compositor over the film's Canvas engine, the vertical Japanese and Thai word-wrap lettering, the reader, the build.
Styles 1 to 3
Classic Shōnen, Shōjo and Gekiga, by Claude, 1 and 2 November 2026.
Styles 4 and 5
Digital Seinen and Full Colour Manga, proposed, written and previewed by OpenAI Codex, model GPT-6 Astra, reasoning effort high, 2 November 2026, as one style file each against the style contract. Codex could not start Chrome inside its sandbox, so a small render service outside it ran the previews on request; Codex looked at the pages and corrected clipped SFX and colour posterisation itself. Reviewed here page by page in all three languages and used as delivered, unchanged.
